Patricia Graves

I stumbled into Ceramics as a printmaking major at Michigan State University. I needed a few more credits for that semester, signed up for a pottery class, and soon realized I had to change my major from printmaking to ceramics. I became obsessed with making the perfect pot; the bigger the better. As my abilities improved and my goals were accomplished, I had a desire to develop a style that was all mine. I began incorporating handbuilding with throwing, which led me down the path I still pursue today. Since we were moving from California to Idaho, I took the opportunity to take a break from clay to heal my body from the stress of throwing, hefting, and travel to and from art shows. I eventually set up a studio in my garage to continue where I left off but found I missed the potting community. I was not interested in exhibiting at fairs and needed to have some fun. I had heard about Fort Boise and decided to give it a go. All I do now is handbuilding and love it! A few years back, I learned how to weave Appalachin style baskets. I have always been interested in weaving. Still exploring, experimenting, and working intuitively.
