My work explores memory, emotion, and our connection to the landscapes that shape us. Inspired by the expansive beauty of the American West, I create atmospheric abstract landscapes that balance structure and spontaneity. Through layered textures, organic forms, and a restrained palette, I seek to capture the feeling of a place rather than a literal depiction of it. Each painting evolves through a process of building, obscuring, and revealing. By layering, sanding, and reworking surfaces, I create depth that invites viewers to slow down, reflect, and discover their own stories within the work. My hope is that each piece offers a moment of stillness, connection, and belonging.
Nicole Hitchcock is a contemporary artist based in Idaho whose atmospheric abstract landscapes are inspired by memory, emotion, and the expansive landscapes of the American West. After a 28-year career as a salon owner and educator, Hitchcock became a full-time artist in 2020. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is held in private collections nationally and internationally.
