Katie Miller

My work is cheery, functional and timeless. I make useful, durable pieces that find their way into everyday use, not saved for special occasions. I'm inspired by patterns found in nature, and items found in grandma's kitchen. I hand carve stamps, many in tessellating patterns, to use in my slab work. My thrown work tends to have modern lines with a vintage vibe. All of it is glazed in crisp, bright colors, making any piece the new centerpiece of your countertop. I've worked with clay for over 25 years, and the ceramic process still captures my curiosity. I find so much joy in making, and sharing my work. The intention behind my work is to bring a small amount of handmade, imperfect beauty into everyday household items.

About Katie Miller

I became enamored with clay in high school art class. My parents, both artists, recognized my infatuation and converted part of our old barn into a studio. Fascination with the ceramic process meant I spent hundreds of hours making. The simple task of giving early work to friends and family revealed an important aspect in creating art: sharing it. I discovered that my creative process is a cycle that begins with, and is completed by, offering my work to the world. Decades later l’m still fascinated with clay, and now work from my garage studio. I'm still offering my work to the world, and now also invite people into my studio through classes and workshops.
