My interest as an artist is to witness to the gift of life and vision: my artistic endeavor is a search of something ineffable--that which cannot be spoken, but I continue to pursue an expressive, sublime visual statement in color and shape--perhaps beyond reach.

About John Killmaster

I received my Bachelor of Arts at Hope College, Holland, Michigan in 1968, then my Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1969. I worked as a designer/illustrator in Detroit and New York. Also worked in advertising for General Motors, Ford and Chrysler corporations in the 1950's and 1960's. In 1970, I moved to Boise and became Professor of Art at Boise State University until 1997. I taught painting, drawing, illustration and enameling. Upon retirement in 1997, I taught workshops throughout the United States in painting and enameling. I have exhibited my work in Italy, Germany, Russia, Japan, Greece , Spain, Australia and Israel. I have shown my work at the Smithsonian, DenverArt Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Seattle Art Museum and in New York City. I received the Idaho Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, in 1978. I was awarded a lifetime achievement award, in 2022, by the International Enamelist Society.
