Deborah Martell

Deborah Martell Artist Statement I am enchanted and creatively challenged by the pristine and the weathered, from iridescent shells to eroded concrete. Stormy horizons and vibrant sunsets inspire my art, revealing a deep connection to nature's elements. Through my paintings, I strive to capture fleeting moments of color and luminescence, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the delicate balance between preservation and change. Inspired by open spaces, water, and skylines, my work serves as a nature report, bringing insights from expansive environments and shimmering moments. The compositions guide viewers along ridges, coastlines, and sunsets, encouraging exploration of reflections, light, and horizon lines. These paintings not only showcase the beauty of our ecosystems but also hint at their fragility, inviting contemplation on our role in preserving the natural world. By emphasizing the connection between land and water, I create an immersive experience that allows viewers to feel as if they're standing at the edge of these open spaces, becoming one with the scenery.

About Deborah Martell

Artist Bio

I am a German-Israeli-American artist with a degree in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego. From a young age, I have always been passionate about art, and throughout my career I have predominantly engaged with digital mediums. However, when I discovered encaustic painting, my artistic journey transformed. Encaustic art is a distinctive and ancient painting technique that captivates me with its potential for fusing rich textures, intricate layers, and profound depth of color. The reflective and opalescent qualities of molten beeswax, tree resin and rich pigment allow me to achieve a visceral effect that I find deeply fulfilling.
