Amy McRae

My work begins with noticing. I am drawn to moments when light, color, texture or atmosphere causes something ordinary to suddenly stand apart from its surroundings. I rarely go out looking for a particular image. Instead, I wander and respond to what is already there—to the moment that makes me stop and look again. Photography becomes both a way of recording these encounters and material for further exploration. I manipulate, isolate and reassemble images, moving between intuitive response and a more analytical process of piecing things together. I am interested in this tension between what is found and what is constructed, and in the way an image can shift as I work with it.

About Amy McRae

Amy always enjoyed photography and was self taught until she took a darkroom photography class. At this point she was hooked on learning more about photography and photographic techniques. Over the years she participated in photography workshops culminating in spending four months in a photography school in Missoula, MT.

While she continues to refine her photographic technique, Amy has ventured into mixed media, continuing to find distinctive ways to present her photography. Amy has participated in group shows in St Louis, MO as well as various juried shows in the Boise area. She has had solo shows in the Boise area. Her work can be seen regularly at Art Source Gallery in Boise and annually in the Boise Open Studios tour.
