Amy McRae

I always enjoyed photography but it wasn't until I got my first 35mm camera that I became serious about my photography.  First there were classes to learn how to work in a darkroom which opened up all sorts of creative possibilities. Then classes that focused on landscapes and story telling.  As digital photography became more prominent I continued to apply what I learned in the darkroom to my creative process. As an artist I challenge myself to find new ways to create distinctive visual art. I create artwork that includes handmade photographs on glass, wood and other mediums. I create artwork printed on fabric that utilizes optical illusions to create the effect of a changing image. I make paper, print my images on the paper and then use the paper to create wall hangings and three dimensional art. My approach to creating art results in each piece being one of a kind.

About Amy McRae

Amy always enjoyed photography and was self taught until she took a darkroom photography class. At this point she was hooked on learning more about photography and photographic techniques. Over the years she participated in photography workshops culminating in spending four months in a photography school in Missoula, MT.

While she continues to refine her photographic technique, Amy has ventured into mixed media, continuing to find distinctive ways to present her photography. Amy has participated in group shows in St Louis, MO as well as various juried shows in the Boise area. She has had solo shows in the Boise area. Her work can be seen regularly at Art Source Gallery in Boise and annually in the Boise Open Studios tour.
