As a fiber artist, I am part of a matrilineal tradition passed down through many generations. My mother is a quilter and my family memories are rooted in the mountains. I make work about family, communities, social networks, and systems. I draw influence from landscape & topography to communicate ideas involving our social structures, communities, and their context within place. I explore how bodies interact with objects & environment, and how the continuation of craft creates communal ties that are unbound from the linear passage of time. The traditional sewing and weaving techniques I use in my work are the same as those used by our ancestors. Across centuries & generations, fiber work complements a deeply human experience.
