Dyan Ferren is a self-taught artist who creates framed assemblage art, sculpture, and installations from natural and manmade discarded materials. Dyan spent the majority of her adult life in coastal Alaska and credits the wild and beautiful surroundings of that remote state for generating her passion to create touchable art. She utilizes natural materials that are bursting with texture, environmentally themed, and ecologically oriented. She relocated to Idaho in 2014 and enjoys discovering and collecting new materials for her work as she travels the high desert, the mountains, and the waterways around Idaho and the western United States.
Her artwork has a deeper message to tell of our human propensity to collect material goods which eventually are discarded and buried in landfills. When utilizing these objects, Dyan’s goal is to mate those materials with nature's objects and create a visual record of unrecyclable and non-degradable materials that will be our future artifacts.
“Through art, I advocate to be mindful of consumption, our environment, and the natural world. We must all contribute to solutions to address the challenges we face to create a healthy and secure future for our planet and all of us who will be here.”
