I'm a lifetime artist with previous emphasis on acrylic painting and assisted teaching art to children in Boise through high school. My occupation has been in graphic design for over 25 years. I was born in Germany, grew up in New Jersey and California and earned a degree in Visual Arts and Communication from UCSD in San Diego. I discovered encaustic painting about 13 years ago. I embrace the encaustic process of moving molten wax with heat and air as it can mimic the fluidity of cloud formations and water flow, much like the wind creates amazing cloud formations and color which then reflects on water. I combine the encaustic process with my original paintings. I like to use iridescent paints and crystalline powders to capture the shine of sand and water. I manipulate and fuse each layer of my encaustic paintings with hot irons, torch and air for the desired texture and color and often add oil pastel highlights. Each piece is unique and always unpredictable.
