My work falls into the category of non-objective painting that comes out of the American Mid-Century modern styles such as Abstract Expressionism. By utilizing a different type of traditionally feminine material, sculpted cloth, curvilinear shapes are created in glue-soaked fabric that is subsequently painted with spray paint, oil paint, and at times, liquid gold or silver leaf. The final result is a continuous organic textured surface that pushes the viewer into an emotional place of meditation. The purpose of this series of work is to start a conversation, to elicit an emotional response, positive or negative, in those who experience it, and to empower the viewer to create their own meaning.
