Artist Bio

A visual artist who works primarily in encaustic (pigmented hot wax) painting, Bubb is a member of Boise Open Studio Collective Organization (BOSCO). She teaches Design Thinking in BSU’s Executive MBA Program and is an adjunct professor in BSU’s Honors College. She is Co-Founder of Surel’s Place, an artist-in-residence program in Garden City, and a Trustee of the Mitchell Family Foundation. Bubb earned her BFA in art from University of Oregon in 1990, an Masters in Public Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Community and Regional Planning from BSU in 2008 and she is a BSU PhD candidate in public administration and policy with a focus on creative economy, expected to complete her degree in 2023. As Boise’s cultural planner, Karen Bubb leads the implementation of Boise’s Cultural Master Plan which focuses on developing cultural policy, enhancing neighborhood places, maintaining cultural assets, fostering cultural organizations and partnerships, and expanding cultural resources for individuals.
