Richard Serros

My painting mixes aspects of art historical ideas with those of mythology, science, philosophy and my own personal understanding of existance.  My education focused on the Renaissance and Baroque periods, but I'm also moved by Classicism,  Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism,  Expessionism, Cubism, Surrealism and other abstract and conceptual movements.  I strive in my art to emphasize aspects of energy, space, light, form and conceptual notions of reality.  Many of my works are enhanced by viewing them with 3D glasses.

Artist Bio

I have enjoyed painting for almost 50 years.  I discovered the great painters while in high school and this led me to dedicate myself to art history as a means of learning the methods of the 'Old Masters' as well as the new ones.  I have traveled to 21 countries on 15 trips abroad to experience thousands of artworks of every kind first hand.  After earning my PhD in Italian Renaissance Art History at the University of California at Santa Barbara, I taught drawing, painting and art history at Modesto Junior College, where I also ran the art gallery there for many years.  After 31 years of teaching there I retired here to Boise in 2018.
